Private Treatment

If you wish to be referred to a hospital/clinic as a private patient, you must be assessed by a GP in the first instance.

we do not convert private prescriptions into NHS prescriptions. When a GP signs an NHS prescription he/she takes full responsibility for prescribing those drugs on that prescription. For the patient's safety as well as the GP's clinical responsibility, it is very important that the GP is in receipt of the Consultant's full clinical findings and proposed management plan. If the GP feels he/she is competent to undertake the Consultant's proposed management plan and competent to take on the responsibility for prescribing the drugs that the Consultant has recommended, then further prescriptions may be issued on the NHS. This policy is always made very clear in our referral letter to the Consultant.
